Cosmetics Industry
As parts for final cosmetic compact assembly rush along high-speed conveyors, Metaphase Backlights provide the uniform (+/-5%) and high-output LED illumination required to generate high contrast imaging for robotic part recognition. Metaphase illuminators are often utilized in the factory assembly of cosmetics along pick and place automation systems and in cosmetic inspection processes. For the cosmetic application pictured below, the vision system performs a binary thresholding to segment the parts from the background, sending the pick-and-place robot the location data for each part. Although the parts are moving with the belt, the vision system & robot is able to move quickly enough to successfully pick the part and place it in the compact.

Metaphase LED Backlights and Economical Backlights provide the necessary brightness and uniformity (+/-5%) needed to support the high speed processing of area scan camera technology used in today’s cosmetic assembly facilities. Standard backlights feature the brightest, most uniform backlighting design available, heavily populated with LEDs, and available in sizes ranging from 1” to 4 ft.
In the same factory, Metaphase Front Lights and Exolights are used to illuminate parts during inspection and feature detection. The Metaphase ExoLight™ is the most efficient and economical LED replacement technology available for the fluorescent tube, eliminating the maintenance of bulb-changing with solid-state performance that assures a 75,000 hour lifetime.
Metaphase has worked closely with partners in the cosmetic industry to supply lighting systems that keep up with the growing speed, technology, and demands of mass-production processes.
